Frasier
My favourite show. It has to be. I can watch every episode of every one of its 11 seasons them go back and start again - and still laugh at its magic. intelligent, funny scenes. Here's some tidbits about it.
Kelsey Grammer / Frasier Crane
- Kelsey Grammer was cast as Frasier Crane in Cheers back in 1984.
- The show's star at the time, Shelley Long objected to his casting and tried to have his character taken off the show. Many years later. as a way of burying the hatchet, she appeared on an episode of Frasier with him.
- With 9 years in Cheers and another 11 in Frasier, he holds the record with James Arness in Gunsmoke for playing the same character for the longest time, 20 years.
David Hyde Pierce / Niles Crane
DHP was cast as Niles because he looked like a younger Kelsey Grammer. Originally the show wasn't meant to include a brother.
Niles proved so popular thanks to DHP's brilliant performance that he became more prominent in the show than was ever planned.
DHP is a brilliant pianist and considered playing professionally. When you see him play on the show it's really him.
The character of Niles Crane is MY favourite tv show character of all time - he is that good, which is why I'm such a huge fan of this actor.

John Mahoney / Marty Crane
- Frasier's dad Marty Crane is a gruff, retired American cop who loves sport and beer and hates opera. John Mahoney is actually British born, has no kids and is a wine expert who loves opera. In fact much of the opera stuff Frasier and Niles talk about is sourced from Mahoney.
Mahoney is actually not old enough to play Frasier's dad so he plays the character older. He and Grammer developed a strong relationship on the show and Grammer said that it was a bit like a father son one.
Jane Leeves / Daphne Moon
Jane Leeves was one of Benny Hill's angels when she was younger.
Peri Gilpin / Roz Doyle
The role of Roz Doyle, Frasier's producer, was originally given to Lisa Kudrow. But in early rehearsals, the producers decided she just didn't fit the role and she was replaced by Peri Gilpin. Of course, Kudrow went on to star in Frends, so she did well.
Gilpin and Jane Leeves developed a strong friendship during the run of the show and became business partners and godmothers to each other's children.

Dan Butler / Bulldog Bob Briscoe
A hilarious character. Bulldog is the host of the sports show on the radio station Frasier works on and is always embarassing Frasier. He is loud, opinionated, sexist and a complete womaniser.
Dan Butler himself is gay and a spokesman for Gay Rights.
